INTERSTATE

2015

Interstate is a collection of objects, including a table and storage unit, that meet the needs of a mobile generation. With a focus on the home, I looked at how we use our personal space. With rooms now being used for multiple activities and a generation who move frequently, I tried to identify the requirements for objects to offer flexibility and adapt to different environments.

For the objects I used an ultralight composite material called Hylite, testing its weight, resilience, flexibility and aesthetic qualities. Ordinarily used for packaging, its polypropylene core creates a natural hinge that can be folded almost limitlessly without breaking.

Type: A collection of hyper-light flatpack furniture

Materials: Hylite

Dimensions: 240x90x75 cm

INTERSTATE was developped at the Design Museum London as ‘Designer in Residence’ following the brief of ‘Migration’. My mentor was Jasper Morrison.
