Swirl
2018
Swirl is a series of geometric forms stacked upon one another to create multidimensional, functional sculptures. The unique process involves recycling the powdered residue from the marble industry, mixed with pigment and resin to create blocks of material that can then be sawn, sliced and turned on a lathe.
For the design I decided to let the patterns of the material speak by themselves and kept the shapes in its most basic form: blocks. I used found objects to create sketch-stacks that then resulted in 10 objects for everyday use.
The collection includes three candleholders, stepped bookends, two candelabras, a vase and three side tables.
